Don Leas grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Air Force, receiving his basic training at Sac Field, San Antonio, Texas and completing Administrative School at Lowry Field, Denver, Colorado. He served on Guam and in Tokyo and was honorably discharged in 1947.
Don graduated from Spencerian College in 1950 with a BBA degree. One winter in La Crosse, Wisconsin convinced him that he did not like minus 45˚ weather. He moved to California in 1951 and got married in December of that year.
From 1951 to 1963, Don was employed by and held various positions with Navajo Freight Lines in Los Angles, California and Denver, Colorado. His final position was Senior Vice-president. He refused a transfer to Chicago when the company was sold.
Returning to California, Don was employed by Leaseway Transportation Corporation as Manager of its Special Lease Group. He worked for Leaseway from 1964 until 1987 with his final position being Western Area Vice-president. Widowed in 1979, he refused promotion to the company’s Cleveland, Ohio headquarters and subsequently retired.
With two partners, Don obtained franchises for two Taco Bells in Lancaster and one in Tehachapi, California. In 1992, he sold the business to Taco Bell Corporation and retired once again.
He then decided to realize a lifelong ambition to breed and raise horses. He went back to school and studied Equine Genetics, Medicine, Nutrition and Breeding. He moved to Marysville, California in 1995 and, in 1997, married his wife Jackie. They spent the next ten years breeding and raising Quarter and Arab horses. When this hobby became more work than fun, Don also retired from his hobby.
In 1994, Don began writing fiction. Sean Casey’s Odyssey was published in 1995. He has also written an unpublished sequel to that book, Patrick’s Quest, as well as Suits & Boots and its sequel, Scotty’s Search,
